Plato's Republic and the Symposium

Plato's Republic is what influences everybody anyway, right? I mean, for example, communist dictatorships, all the Marxists and communists, they don't look to symposium. They look to Plato's Republic. Enlightenment Revolutionary Republicanism looks to Plato. Fascist dictators look to Plato. Imperial philosophy and various empires will look to Plato too.
