The Battle of Samos

During the winter, a Spartan named Hippocrates sailed out from the Peloponnese with 12 ships. Their intended target was the Carian city state of Kainidos. The Athenians at Samos learned of this and sent a small squadron to Triopium where they seized 6 enemy ships guarding Kainido. Although they failed to take the city as a sort of consolation, the Athenians decided to plunder Kainidian territory before returning back to Samos. Meanwhile, those 27 Athenian ships at Lesbos crossed over to Chios in order to put the island under siege once again.
