In 2021, social media influencer Janay Gagner was killed by what her family believed to be an obsessed follower. As Dallas Howard pointed out, these examples raise serious questions about privacy in the age of social media. Without these same tools, we would not have had the video footage Floyd being murdered by a police officer in 2020. We would not know the extent of the Flint and Jackson, Mississippi water crises. Therapists like Nedra Glover to Wobb are using TikTok to open more discussions around healthy relationships, parenting and marriage. Digital communities are the new public square.
