A lot of indigenous languages have names that are pejorative. Kargat's speakers moved to calling themselves Shuba, even though both refer to their previous occupation as papermakers. The name Malasit comes from a name by the Mi'kmaq people in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick who were encountered by European slowly earlier.
