Is There a Newness Breaking in With Israel Stories?
There's often a kind of quasi-marcian way of reading these texts that sees all of these characters Joseph, Mary, Zachariah, Elizabeth as marking a break with the Jewish past right so Israel. I think if you attend closely with the way these stories are being told there's such continuity with what God has always been doing right from the start with Israel and and with Adam. The gospel announces something new but it is a newness that has always been being prepared for right now.
