The Clean Up of China's Nuclear Reactor
Close to 600 thousand men are drafted in to help clear up the heavily contaminated area around the plant. Forests around the plant are torn down in order to eliminate flora and fauna from the food chain. Thousands of men with shovels scrape off the top layer of soil and bury the contamination several feet below ground. Those who die are wrapped in plastic sheets and laid to rest in zinc coffins. Their grieving families get no chance to say good bye. By the end of may, radiation at the sight is still perilously high. The structure is planned around the reactor to help contain it. It won't be until the end of november 19 86, six months after the initial explosion
