Bante said that his poems were his secret autobiography. If you want to trace the deeper rhythms of Bante's life, the poems are important. The first two standards go like this: In the dim green stillness of the pool, there is a redness as of gold. He's looking at a pool and he's seeing goldfish flashing among the dark brown weeds. Beautiful. It breathed down there where the lotus reads. Deep in the ocean of my soul, flickers an anguish read as fire, twining among my uzi thoughts,.
