Is it possible that there was a civilization intelligent civilization before hours in the distant past and the distant past not that distant when you're talking about a four billion year old planet right so this was a paper I wrote with Gavin Schmidt who's the head of Goddard Institute for Space Studies which is a NASA climate insulation. We wanted to know how would you know right how would youknow and this question is it's a bit of a lawyer and it was very much a lawyerly exercise right we wanted to know just you know because people argue about this but the question is are there any way you could tell?
