How to Be a Better Writer
I think for me what's been helpful as an ethnographer is to read widely. I love the sort of lush moving prose of Aradati Roy, the powerful poetry of Louise Bennett and Stuart Hall. The craft of storytelling, you can learn that across religious traditions, right? So I suppose instead of who's your favourite writer, I'm just moved by my favourite works, right? And I start there and I pay attention to what they're trying to teach me about storytelling. Then I try to hone that in a way that's authentic to the way I am, authentic to the locality where I'm at or where I'm doing my working.
