The tyranny of merit is exerted by the winners over those who are left behind. The way we've assigned prestigious colleges and universities, the role of allocating their credentials in defining the merit that a meritocratic society honors and rewards. We need to increase our investment in state colleges in two year community colleges and in vocational and technical training. And it's led to this deeply polarized politics.
