The Importance of Cassava in Indonesia

In 2005, a huge mountain of waste collapsed in Kukkangyana village. A tsunami of garbage killed 157 people and inspired the survivors to restore their ecosystem. Five freshwater springs run through what they call the forbidden forests. Restoring cassava as a major nutrition source is in tune with ancestral beliefs.
