The Complexity of Patriarchy

In some parts of the world, for example in Europe, it does stretch back thousands of years. But then there are other parts of theworld in which it is very new and people who within living memory can remember the encroachment of patriarchal norms inside their society. So when we think about Patriarchy, we often imagine it to be this kind of huge monolith that has existed as far back as anyone can remember. And actually, in reality, it is very patchy and piecemeal. It is far more fragile than we imagine.
