The Importance of Discourse in Science and Philosophy
There's a sense of not moving forward if discourse doesn't exist. I think that in some sense, all of science and philosophy exists at the whim of kings. You basically need to have people that are able to understand the economic realities of the world. And that also think that it's valuable to have people who only care about truth. These are weird people and that are willing to give these weird people enough money so they can continue looking for truth.
