i think they can be a really effective form of satire, because you just get it, you know, it clicks. The four profit entities that run social media want to keep you engaged by showing you stuff they think you'll agree with. Humor is a skeleton key to human psychology and if you can get some one to laugh somehow, then you have made significant progress in getting them on your team. And the scary thing is that these platforms are going for a sombre speech all but the most sombre speeches. They're trying to get people to get angry at each other. It's usually a little more subtle.
