What Is the Higgs Field?
It's looking increasingly likely that our universe erupted randomly from an aberration in an energy field, like a bubble of steam rising in a pod of boiling water. A theory by physicist Roger Penrose called conformal cyclic cosmology says this is just the way that universes are formed. One bubbles up, lives, dies, and leaves nothing behind but the remnants of the black holes that formed it. The next universe then bubbles up to replace the old one. To us living in this universe, such a process would take the longest scales of time imaginable. If you could turn down all of the energy fields in the universe to zero on some master universe style, there would be no electrons at all
