The New Yorker: Poetry

CHAPTER

The Longing to Be Saved

I was so interested in pairing this poem with The longing to be saved, which is of course all about fire Absolutely I think that there's this uh Danger in both the poems They're very different one is more urgent feeling at least on the surface. There's an urgency in this poem to me the kind of Reflective tone the kind of observer tone. And it only heightens that in the end Um, the rhyme does much the same it connects But it doesn't connect every time, you know, it's sort of every other and so there's something wonderful in that Thank you.
