Tolerance Is Not a Negative Creed

If we choose always to ignore the interests of our neighbors, whether they be human or subhuman, we shall in the last chapter simply be dead. The problems ahead are too big for heroic solutions. It is attitudes, not actions which matter now. If tolerance is too difficult, let us at any rate be optimistic and self-confident. Men at some time are masters of their fates. That does not mean that we can control the universe, but that we can act confidently with a sense of purpose.
