In the rethinking search paper, question answering is a really common one. And so you don't actually need the user to look at the link necessarily. You could just give them the answer directly. There are other sorts of information retrieval problems like this, I suppose. Like if you're reading a news article, maybe there's some retrieval problem there where you want to find similar news articles. This is like a content based recommendation, you could also have a neighborhood based looking at user patterns but this is, I think, moving away from Search.
