The Myth of Tartan
There are military connections to tartan. So the Blackwatch Regiment does wear a specific tartan. There is that contradiction of tartan being singular and personal, but also being something that a regiment wears. And it's also the everyday wear of the highlanders who would have worn it into battle,. not in specific clans, but they would still have worn tartan into battle. The National Theatre of Scotland made a wonderful sequence which brilliantly sums up the changing face of the regiment through its evolving fashion.
