Joseph Smith's Proclamation of Polygamy
In 1842, Joseph Smith published a pamphlet by Udny H. Jacob who defended polygamy as a solution to marital incompatibility. Some Mormons claim to this day that all of Joseph's marriages were entirely with consummation left to the state of eternal damnation. In fact, Brigham Young was quoted as saying, No matter if it is my wife or not, any man can preach and beret who preached will go to hell.
