The Role of Courts in the Renaissance

Court models of civility had been dominant since at least the Renaissance. Castiglione brought in Aristotle's idea of moderation, Cicero's idea of decorum and stoicism. All this together was absorbed into Renaissance humanist ideas of courtly behaviour. So it's quite a hierarchical system which assumes that everybody's going to behave according to their place.
