Introduction
A caterpillar in arizona can develop into two totally different forms depending on the season. This type of response to different environments is something that we biologists call plasticity. In most casesre the plastic solution gets you pretty close, but it usually doesn't solve the problem as well as adaptation does. Kam argues that non adaptive plasticity might sometimes speed up evolution because it puts populations under more selective pressure than adaptive plasticity.
