What Is Nuclear Chain Reaction?
Dr. Jorgensen: There is another way that very, very large things become stable more stable quickly; they just split. So basically we're talking about now fission. And so you have all the uranium atoms disintegrating. That's what nuclear chain reaction is. In nuclear bomb, it's the same principle, but you produce criticality instantly. You push all the uranium together at the same moment, and you produce this instantaneous criticality which results in a huge explosion.
