Torentum is not given a nice time in the sources that survive. Some Roman authors do have this about Greeks in general. Livia refers to the Greeks of Italy as "the most vain and insubstantial of people" The Tarentines actually had a pretty effective army and even more effective Navy, so you get a very strong sense of the yawning gap.
