Ep 76: Levi Roach on the Normans
School of War
00:00
Introduction
The Norman legacy is a critical subset of the broader tale of Viking raiders and their interventions into more settled European terrain. The Normans are in a sense an offshoot of the Vikings that we see in Europe in the 7th, 9th, and 10th centuries. A group of them settle in northern France in the early 10th century to defend against attacks from other groups. This creates then kind of a bottleneck preventing Paris being defended by others - which runs up to one of its most important urban centers. So how did they get there? We'll find out on this week's School of War.
