Self respect is choosing the path of pain. Give things up if they don't make you behave in a way that you are comfortable with. Don't let people mistreat you, even if they're like cracke cocane. Of choice is to hold that person accuntable. And holding that person accountable sometimes means giving her up. Invent a time machine, go back in time and not do it.
