Is She a Deity?
Some scholars are even questioning whether she's a goddess at all. Her most striking feature is a huge fan-shaped headdress. To the Spanish friar, Bernardino de Saagun, this seems an uncanny parallel to Christian views on sexual sin and confession. The Aztecs despised their Wastec subjects as hopelessly licentious.
