He did have a brand in fact. He couldn't abandon it. The whole intro of this book is written, I think it's 50 years after the original publication in 1963. Even though it's not literally true, it rings true enough to people that it resonated and that was worrisome for him too,. It's all happening at a time where these post-World War II institutions were still newish.
