The NTSB's Findings on the Bird Strike
Captain Solenberger was trying to nose up so the tail came down first into the water. One of the flight attendants on the plane said it didn't feel like any worse than maybe a slightly rough landing on a runway. The NTSB found that when they put pilots in the simulator and they recreated this incident, if they immediately turned around and went back to LaGuardia, they would make it 50% of the time.
