Samuel Johnson: I think Jose a 12 shows us that we can see Jacob's life, his journey into Padam, Aram, and his return back to the land as foreshadowing the Exodus. He says it's like you have the returning of Jacob mirroring God's promise in Genesis 15 that he's going to bring the people out of the Exodus. And then of course the whole sequence of events with Jacob is very similar to the Exodus.Johnson: Israel would recognize that their own experiences are foreshadowed in the patriarch Jacob. "Just like the Lord kept Jacob, he'll keep us just like the Lord was with Jacob," writes Johnson.
