The Vestal Virgin Becomes Very Important to Rome, Doesn't She?
We think that the king numa sets up the vestal virgin cult in rome quite early. Vesta is supposed to be a virginal goddess, but then it also sort of ands in for the roman state as well. In the same way that vestus, hearth fire, stands in for the state. The virginity of the vestals starts to stand in for thestate as well.
