I hold no brook brief for suffering, nor for well being either. I am standing for my caprice and for its being guaranteed to me when necessary. We are now in a position to see the crucial significance of the existential psychotherapy movement. It is precisely the movement that protests against the tendency to identify psychotherapy with technical reason. They placed these insights on an ontological basis, namely, the study of the individual as the being who has these particular problems. And they feared that the subordination of reason to technical problems would ultimately mean the making of man over in the image of the machine.
