The Gospel of Thomas and the Canon of Scriptures
The emperor constantine called for the creation of 50 copies of scriptures. These might have been early bibles based on whatever constantine or his church accepted as authoritative before he died. The consensus among scholars is that christianity was highly ambiguous and various right from the beginning. Over time, churches had to work out consensus and try to create agreement,. Eventually something like an orthodox consensus was assembled.
