Writer ferris jaber looks into whether octopuss are inherently social. He says captive octopuses seem to constantly be seeking outi action with their human caretakers. It's possible that what seems like friendship to us might not be friendship to the octopus, he writes. But i'm much more confident that my britney spaniel, jack is, you know, sees me as a member of his family group, and feels things for me similar to what i feel for him.
Octopuses are largely solitary animals, but there have been rare times — notably in the movie My Octopus Teacher — where they seem to have become comfortable around humans. But is it really possible to be friends with an octopus?
