Cortisol is a sex hormone, but it's regulated by the pituitary adrenal axis. It reflects lack of ACTH stimulation if your ACTH is suppressed. DHA sulfate is helpful for much more subtle cases of mild autonomous hypercortisolism. Metanetran levels through lipoecumcytoma can rule out some patients who need surgery.
