Introduction

Dennis C. Rasmussen's new book is Fears of a Setting Sun, the Disillusionment of America's Founders. The title comes from a vignette that we have from the final day of the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Most of the founders who lived into the 19th century or even to the dawn of the new century came to feel deep anxiety and disappointment about the government they'd helped to create.
