Vedantic meditation is a preliminary practice to make us fit and focused for Vedantic study. The advanced purpose of meditation, nidith diasana, is to remove the contrary tendencies of behaving like body might. In Hindi they say, moti vadvalo - what's the general point? Are we supposed to meditate or not? I don't understand all thoseological distinctions but one good way of solving these problems is looking at the lives of people who consider themselves spiritually advanced.
