What Is the Carnix?

The panel shows three warriors playing instruments known as carnices. And then above them is a straight, horizontal tree branch with little leaves forking off of it. The curators of the national museum of denmark argue that the warriors on foot in the bottom of this panel are being represented as probably in the underworld. They seem to be moving toward the left side where they will face a god of some kind who turns them upside down and dunk him head first into a cauldron.
