We will argue for a long time about whether an artificial entity qualifies as being alive, sentient or conscious. We won't know that for sure until we build artificial intelligence that is essentially us. The only standard that will matter in the end is that a human interact with and says, you know, it's alive to me. I can't tell the difference. And i'll bet everything on it; i won't be wrong. Some day there will be ade t about whether it should be legal to create an ai that has feelings. It will be alive when it feels like it to you. There's no other standard, because there can't be.
