The Gravitational Wave Background of Supermassive Black Holes
The signal that we found evidence for is this gravitational wave background. And that comes from the cosmic merger history of supermassive black holes. So it's not one signal that we're looking for, but an aggregate signal. There are a million times stronger than what you can see in LIGO. But when they build up, they create this whopping loud signal with pulsar timing arrays.
