The unfinished pole behind me symbolizes the 400 years of oppression that Shinnekok people have faced by the town of Southampton and the state of New York. The kind of intention of sovereignty camp was to create a kind of ring of protection for the construction of the second highway. We are protecting not only our land, but our rights for economic development too.
