The Power of Spray Paint
Shemsia was inspired by an arts advocacy group to make murals in Kabul. She wanted to cover the streets with all the colors and emotions inside her. Carrying that can of spray paint into the street felt dangerous, but also freeing and empowering. Sometimes she only had 15 or 20 minutes to make one of these art pieces before she heard footsteps, or even the rumble of nearby explosions.
