Are There Any Other Clauses to Look Out For?
i advise authors to really consider all the obtions when they are signing contracts. It's best to sort it out ap front before you sign a contract, because otherwise it can be a lot of later in the process and you might have signed away things. The option clause gives your publisher that you're working with first look at your next project. I would always try to get the second option of just a proposal in the sample chapters if you can. And then also specifying the right time limit for either the whole contract or if they don't exercise their rights. If there is not a time line specified, i always advised to try to have a narrow window of time.
