The Quasi Myth of the Lone Genie in Science

How do you think about the quasi myth of the lone genius in science? I say quasi myth because it's not truly a myth. And the difference between science and the arts is that if you're an artist, then anything you create is distinctive. It may not last. Whereas in the case of science, if you make a contribution, then it will last probably if you're lucky, but it'll be just one brick in the edifice. So it loses individuality in that in almost all cases, it would have been done by someone else if you hadn't done it.
