Strength and Conditioning for Runners - Repetition and Sets

With a runner that hasn't done very much strength and conditioning before as you mentioned the most important thing initially it's just to try and acquire movement skills. I generally won't take runners down to really low repetition ranges unless they're very experienced in a weight room so with novices  within the first year of commencing resistance training program I typically won't go much lower than about four or five repetitions if they're looking nicely skilled on the exercise. With almost every single runner that I start working with at least by the second session I can start adding a little bit of load on some of those exercises even with some young athletes.
