Rape turns you into a rapist, whether or not she's more like awom or more like a toaster. But it still could diminish you as a person to treat her like a toasters given what she looks like. Even if they aren't conscious, even if, as a matter of fact, from from a god's eye view, they're just things, ah, it will seem to us as if they're conscious. And then the act of tormenting conscious people will either be repugnant to us, or, if it isn't, it will lead us to to be worse moral beings.
