Livingstone's Explorations
Most of the explorers are actually british. David livingstone was originally a missionary in southern africa, but he gets bored with being a missionary and decides to become an explorer. And it's when he first hits the zambezi, in really the heart of africa, that he has his first encounter with tha slave trade. He tells us again and again in his letters and his diaries and journals, that what's really motivating him is his sense that through exploration, and through the opening up of africa to commerce,. he can become a champion for abolition.
