The Transition From Folk Football to Modern Football

The important moment, really transition moment, seems to be in the 18 hundreds. That's when people started to write down the laws of the gamesr as we call them now. Public schools very often invented games for the boys that were deliberately exclusive. So m eton has two kinds of football game - one reminiscent of what we would think of as sucker or football to day and the other more akin to rugby union. And it was a way of integrating the young boys into the school spirit, and also deliberately exclusionary.
