American culture prices a premium individualism and self sufficiency, which you alluded to earlier. And it tends to look down on 98 % of those who receive support from the government. Instead of relying on the state to provide a safety net, most ans receive benefits like health care and retirement savings through their employer. So i think that first and first and foremost, we have to recognize that america's greatest ength is also its greatest weakness.
