When caesar conquers averacom, it is a major setback for the gauls. Caesar can now strike anywhere he wants in gaul and decides to make a statement. He attacks verkingederi's home town of gergovia but at first its going well. But over 700 of his men are killed during an attack that goes wrong. This forces him to retreat from the city because such a big defeat destroys confidence. Most gallic armies would just split up and melt away after they suffered a big defeat like this.
